Open Your Eyes! International Film Festival The historically first international animal rights film festival in Central Europe will take place in Prague, Aero theater, on May 11 and 12. The festival will introduce newest animal rights documentaries to the public. The International Film Festival Open Your Eyes! is focused on the rights and defence of animals. It's first of its kind not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Europe, and its main intention is to apprise the general public of this issue as well as to raise publicity and concern of the media. The festival will expose the latest opinions and the progress of the animal rights movement to the public. This issue and the movement itself is becoming well-known worldwide, but still not enough in the Czech Republic. There's been a significant turning point in the world cinematography and the animal rights issue is now drawing attention of more and more documentarists. Many high-class films have been produced and awarded at various international festivals; some of them were even nominated for Academy Awards, yet they are not in regular distribution within the Czech Republic. In addition to the film screenings, the festival will include discourses and discussions with experts, a competition, an exhibition and further cultural programme. The discourses and discussions will be held with large involvement of the visitors. There are surely some controversial issues about the animal rights movement and we believe the discussions to be very interesting. Thanks to the cooperation with the media and our effort to put the documentaries through for further distribution in cinemas, the effect of this project is expected to be quite big. This festival is a part of a long-term project called Otevři oči! (Open Your Eyes!). After the festival, we are going to continue screening the winning documents in other cities and at select music festivals.
